Des Sonntags in der Morgenstund’
Wie wandert’s sich so schön
Am Rhein, wenn rings in weiter Rund’
Die Morgenglokken geh’n!
Ein Schifflein zieht auf blauer Flut,
Da singt’s und jubelt’s drein,
Du Schifflein, gelt, das fährt sich gut
In all die Lust hinein?
Vom Dorfe hallet Orgelton,
Es tönt ein frommes Lied,
Andächtig dort die Prozession
Aus der Kapelle zieht.
Und ernst in all die Herrlichkeit
Die Burg hernieder schaut
Und spricht von alter, guter Zeit,
Die auf den Fels gebaut.
Das alles beut der prächt’ge Rhein
An seinem Rebenstrand,
Und spiegelt recht im hellsten Schein
Das ganze Vaterland.
Das fromme, treue Vaterland
In seiner vollen Pracht,
Mit Lust und Liedern allerhand
Vom lieben Gott bedacht. |
On a Sunday in the morning,
how nice to wander
Along the Rhine when all around near and far
The morning bells are ringing.
A little ship is sailing on blue waters,
There is singing and jubilating,
Oh little ship, isn’t it good
Sailing into all this joy?
From the village the organ sounds across,
A pious song is heard,
A devout procession over there
Is moving out of the chapel.
And with seriousness
The castle looks down on all this splendour
And speaks about the good times of old
Which built upon the rock.
All this is offered by the magnificent Rhine
Along its bank of vines,
And it mirrors most brightly
The entire fatherland.
The devout, faithful fatherland
In all its magnificence,
With joy and songs aplenty
Endowed by the dear God.
