Warum soll ich denn wandern
Mit andern gleichen Schritt,
Ich pass’ nicht zu den andern,
Und Liebchen geht nicht mit.
Man singt in tausend Weisen
Von Bergen, Felsenhöh’n;
Allein warum noch reisen,
Die Heimat ist so schön!
Ich will ja alles glauben,
Was draußen wächst und blüht,
Das Gold der süßen Trauben,
Wie’s Sonnenfunken sprüht.
Allein, der Trank der Reben,
Er kommt ja auch hieher,
Wo mir mein holdes Leben
Ihn reicht, was will ich mehr.
Ich geh’ nicht ins Gewimmel
Der großen, weiten Welt,
Den klarsten, blau’sten Himmel,
Zeigt Liebchens Augenzelt.
Und mehr als Frühlingswonne
Verspricht ihr Lächeln mir,
O zarte meine Sonne,
Ich wand’re nicht von hier. |
Why then should I travel
In step with others,
I do not fit in with the others,
And my loved one is not coming along.
They sing in a thousand tunes
About mountains, rocky heights;
However, why travel,
My homeland is so beautiful !
I do believe it all,
Things that grow and flower out there,
The sweet grapes’ gold,
How it showers sparks of sun.
However, the drink of the vines,
It will come here
Where my life’s love
Hands it to me, what more do I want.
I will not go into the crowds
Of the great big world,
The clearest, bluest sky
Is in my love’s eyes.
And more than spring delight
Is promised me by her smile,
Oh my tender sun,
I will not travel from here.
